There are many natural, loving marriages of elements in this world– to name a few: Wine and Cheese, Pancakes and Maple Syrup, Ricky and Lucy, Hummus and Pita, Pretzels and Mustard, Thanksgiving and Turkey, etc… The list goes on. However, we are left with the mind-boggling question of what went sour between the marriage of Halloween and Dogs???
One would think the marriage had been going well. After all, I’ve seen many advertisements and plugs, locally and nationally, for dog-friendly Halloween events and it warms my heart to see all of the effort and goodwill being put into action by our pro-active community. I don’t know what could be cuter than dressing your dog up as a former major league baseball player (Manny Ramirez) who still holds an extremely controversial reputation with continued run-ins with law enforcement. But doesn’t Frankie look darling in his dread-lock get-up?
So what’s the big issue here? Well, the problem seems to lie in the cocoa. To put it more simply and straightforward, chocolate CAN kill dogs and cats, though it usually doesn’t if you get quick veterinary intervention.
